Another day trip from Carmen was to El Peñol. At 656 ft. tall this 65-million-year-old rock causes a gasp on first look. The way the road follows the irregular coastline, the rock appears in different places at different angles as you travel. There are 740 steps if you want to climb it and there is a well developed industry to buy things at the foot and the crest of the mountain.
